I bought this based on reviews from America’s test kitchen. It works very well and consistently makes good yogurt. It’s reasonably priced and seems well made. Instructions were also easy to follow. My only wish is that the inner lid would fit on the stainer basket. I use foil to cover while straining. Overall, very pleased with purchase.

I’ve had this yogurt maker for almost 5 years now. I’ve used it to make a new batch at least once a month, using a start from each batch to keep the same yogurt going. I sterilize my containers each time and have only had to get a new start about 5 or 6 times.
I follow the process of heating the milk in a bowl over a pot of boiling water. Then pour the milk into the white container to cool until the start goes in and I put it in the yogurt maker. I usually let it go for at least 10 hours and chill before straining. I strain over night to make it cream cheese consistency (whey bothers me) and water it down until it’s a more palatable consistency.
It’s only now, after 5 years, that I ran into a problem, that the plastic on my strainer broke. I’ve also used the strainer to make nut milk, which may be the reason it broke. It still strains most of the yogurt and I can strain the bits that didn’t come out through a permanent coffee filter.
I have only good things to say about this, and I’ve recommended and given these away as gifts ever since buying it. If you’re looking to save money on yogurt, it’s a great purchase if only for the convenience of it. The flavor of your yogurt matches the flavor of the start you use, minus the store bought starchiness.

When the product worked, it was fine. But the on off/time set button was always a little iffy, and then it stopped working completely after about 2.5 months. I never submerged the base in water, so I have no idea how it happened. I am in the process of trying to get a refund or replacement.

I had high hopes for this yogurt machine. I only write reviews when I either totally I love with a product or am completely annoyed a product. A little background: My go-to yogurt machine is the Euro Cuisine yogurt maker with the little jars. I really like it but the batches are too small and making Greek Yogurt was a pain. No problems with the machine itself. Dash seemed like a good solution/ alternative and it might have been had the machine worked more than twice out of the six times I tried to make yogurt with it. I use (expensive) A2 milk and probiotics to make my yogurt, so in addition the the money wasted on the Dash machine, I wasted a bunch of money (and time) on ingredients. Two issues.

Issue 1: Control panel/timer (minor issue)
The first time I tried to make yogurt I plugged it in, entered the time for 12 hours and went to bed. I figured that I’d check batch in the morning at some point. (I am a lazy yogurt maker.) When I did check it the machine light had turned off and I lifted the lid to liquid. Before this I never had a failed batch of yogurt with my Euro Cuisine machine. I thought that maybe I had not set the timer correctly, so I set it again and it worked. I got yogurt. I assumed that the initial failure user error. The next few tries I stood by the machine a minute or made sure to check that the timer was in fact counting down. On one or two additional attempts it wasn’t, but the error was quickly remedied. FYI. The “:” must be blinking the the timer the begin.
I’ve decided that I kind don’t like the timer at all or that it needs a buzzer or something to notify me that the time is up/machine is turning off. I incubate my yogurt for long periods - 16 to 20 hours. Because I don’t want the machine to turn off when I’m not paying attention, I would just set it at 24 hour default.

Were this the only issue I’d probably give this machine 3 or 4 stars. When it worked I got some nice Greek yogurt. Problem is that even when the machine definitely running it only made yogurt 2 out of 6 tries.

Which brings me to issue 2 (major): Yogurt fails because temp doesn’t alway heat up to necessary temperature.
My second attempt was a liquid failure, followed by success and another failure. Rather than blame the machine, I assumed that the problem was likely the new brand of probiotic that I used was not viable. I used my usual brand for the second successful batch and I figured the first success might be because the batch incubated for so long that whatever bacteria was alive finally grew enough.

I tested this by splitting a batch of inoculated milk between the Euro Cuisine and Dash machines with my usual probiotic. Euro made yogurt, Dash remained liquid. When I measured the temperature of the Dash liquid it was 81.1 degrees, which is far to low from my understanding. I also tested the new probiotic on the Euro Cuisine and it successfully made yogurt. So it was a failure on the part of the Dash machine.

Given the opportunity I would try this machine again because the one time that it totally worked, it work well. I understand that products can sometimes but faulty. But I bought this product more than a month ago and cannot return it to Amazon. I might try calling the company and see if they will refund me or give a a replacement, in which case I will update this review to reflect the quality of the service that I receive. This is just a lot of energy for a yogurt maker.

I've already made about 10 batches and it comes out with the same great creamy consistency every time whether I use Nature's Promise whole milk or 2% fat milk. The strainer is great to remove the liquid and have a thicker yogurt.

Initially, I thought that I had to get a thermometer so that the milk that I warm up on the stove before pouring it into the Yogurt maker isn't so hot that it would kill off the probiotic, but my finger test has worked flawlessly; it should be approximately 100 degree or body temperature, so you should feel almost no heat difference between your finger and the milk. I would rather side a bit on the safe side; it's better to have it a bit cooler than a bit too hot. This Yogurt maker is so easy to use, just put in the milk at the right temperature, mix in the starter Yogurt and I use Inulin from Chicory Root that I buy on Amazon. Then set the time. Skim off approx. 1/2 cup of yogurt after 12 hours to use as a starter batch for the next batch.

I make my own yogurt so that I can experiment and add my own strain of probiotic based on the research that I read. I've been particularly interested in two particular strains of L. Reuteri, so as a 1st batch, I just need to crush a few tablets or open up a capsule and add it to the milk and inulin.

I like the simplicity of this product. Works well, simple function panel. I wish the container and tubs were just a bit larger to easily hold a half gallon it takes about a cup less, as well as the strainer just a bit larger/ longer. But for the price etc it works very well. Easy to clean. I'm happy with the product.

Unit looks nice but is 100 percent plastic. Digital display easy to use and see. Big disappointment was unit gets way to hot while fermenting the mixture. I found the temperature at 135 degrees. The mixture was started at 100 degrees. Needless to say, this is an unacceptable temperature control and your yogurt will die everytime. My room temperature was at 75 degrees. 20 watts is way to much power !! It should be closer to12 watts without any thermostatic control. Why does a company make a product that they know nothing about ?? Or, is it just bad quality control ?

5.0 out of 5 stars Muy buen producto
Reviewed in Mexico on November 28, 2017

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Greek yogurt lovers

This works great, the only challenge is timing. You leave the yogurt maker on for 8 - 10 hours and then it needs to go in the fridge, so either making it in the morning or before bed are really the only options. The straining process to thicken it up is fast on easy and you can leave it to the consistency you prefer. I've even made it thick enough to spread and added a bit of salt, pepper and cumin to put on crackers.
